Everyone, please join us at Scrap Camp this Saturday 2:00pm - 4:00pm as we share of the love of crafting and make Truth Cards!
There is NO CHARGE. Just bring some type of adhesive, paper cutter and scissors and we'll supply the rest. If you have crafting stuff you want to use up: paper scraps, ribbon pieces, cardstock, embellishments, etc, feel free to bring some. If not, we'll have enough to share.
Please don't let the "I'm not crafty" vibe hinder a few hours of camping with us. This project just requires loving hearts, not skill. Invite your friends. We just ask that you RSVP, no later than Friday evening, by returning this email so we have a count to prepare.
What are Truth Cards??? Here's the idea:
A few months ago several Sisters friends got together as a birthday celebration where we paper-crafted for a cause. The birthday girl attended Brave Girl Camp in October and wanted to share the joy of making Truth Cards. She was gathering them to send to Amazing Grace Home in Arkansas, a home for girls who've Aged Out of foster care. There they learn life and job skills to help them get a solid start in life.
If you're not familiar with Brave Club or Truth Cards, go to www.bravegirlsclub.com and check this amazing movement started by Scrapbook designer Melody Ross. Here's an excerpt from the Brave Girls Club.
Why Truth Cards?
Sometimes it is just a few true and beautiful words that give us all of the hope that we need to keep going...
and just a FEW true words really can make all of the difference in the world...
The idea for Truth Cards came as a way to overpower the awful script that sometimes runs in our head, preventing our souls from feeling whole or healed. Truth cards are little messages of love and truth that are written directly to our souls.... telling us the TRUTH when we are believing words that are keeping us from believing the love and truth.
Truth Cards have been a pat of BGC from the beginning, and we have seen thousands of lives of women from all over the world (including ourselves!) healed in little and big ways from the powerful little truths on each card... cards that they make for themselves... cards that they make for each other.
It has long been a dream to create a way to connect with other brave girls from all over the world by doing an exchange of Truth Cards for brave girls in desperate need of reminders of there deepest truth.. so, Brave Girls... will you join us?
Your art, your little truth.... may be the VERY WORDS that keep one of your sisters going... what a difference you will make!
With this in mind, several of us crafted most of the day and into the night making Truth Cards for those we thought might need it as well as 11 sets of personalized Truth Cards (over 120) that we sent to Amazing Grace. We not only celebrated the birthday of a woman whose "Truth" it is to make the world a better place, we enjoyed the "Truth" of being with each other and connecting through crafting. Thank you, Staci.
A few weeks ago I was forwarded this thank you letter from the director.
Ohhhh my goodness!!! You Moms made such BEAUTIFUL truth cards for our girls.
We are forced to screen those types of donations before we distribute them (even though I knew they were coming!) because we just never know what we are going to get and sometimes we have to go "Whoa! This is not the message we want to send to our girls." So, as I took the truth cards from each envelope and began to read, I was overcome with emotion. It was like every single card you sent was made with each specific girl in mind and speaking directly to the current circumstances in her life. Not only that, but I was so happy to get the packet of cards with no specific name on them. We had a new girl move in today and the staff and I chose about a dozen of our favorites to hang on a bulletin board in her room before she got here. My favorites were "Dear Phenomenal Girl" and "Dear Incredible Girl". Just the POWER in those descriptions of her are amazing. Also "This is the beginning of anything you want." really stood out to me. It's just so cool to know those powerful statements from across the county will be singing over this girl as she sleeps tonight.
Again, just thank you so much for letting the Lord lead you to do this.
Much Love.
How's THAT for a great birthday celebration!!!??? Now, we have found a shelter for women and girls who've been rescued from Human Trafficking. Please help us bring light to their tragic circumstances.
