In case like me you are finishing up a little last minute goodie making I thought you might need this recipe.
I love little Spritz cookies....just a little bite of goodness...really the perfect cookie and of course I like it cause it's main ingrediant is BUTTER!
My problem is finding the perfect Spritz Cookie recipe, one that tastes good and one that actually goes through the press and stays together.
I must say my spritz cookies start with this
of course moms old spritzer...old!!!! And while I think every now and then I should go modern I have tried several high end cooking ones....THEY NEVER WORK LIKE THIS ONE!
Finding the perfect recipe has also meant....good old betty crocker, the recipe that came with the spritzer, Taste of Home and a few other sources...but since finding this recipe I have searched no further. I picked up this book when we sold them at the store...and honestly it's worth tracking down. I really like several of the recipes in this sweet little book. Plus hey it brightens up any Christmas kitchen.
Of course you see right on the cover her perfect little gems...lets face it my sprinkles are never gonna be that perfect but yours can be.
The recipe is simple and while they all seem to have the same ingredients this one seems to not only taste great but truly holds it shape.
preheat oven to 350
1 cup room temperature butter
3/4 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp almond flavoring
food color optional
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 1/2 cup flour
cream butter and sugar well
add egg yolks almond flavoring and vanilla
add food color and baking powder
gradually add in flour until just mixed, dough should be stiff and pliable, only slightly sticky.
Fill your press and space about 1 1/2 inches apart
bake for 10 min until they just start to brown.
I must admit I only use the tree shape...it always works without much extra effort (or patience that I seem to not have)
Sprinkle away and enjoy
cute to giveaway in little papers
or just pile them on a plate and start snacking...remember they are small you can have more than one!
and one more recommendation
if you don't have this you need it...
I found this right before Thanksgiving...a Wilton spatula! AND IT ROCKS!!!! A perfect stocking stuffer for the baker in your family...sorry Lynda I went back to get you one and they were all gone....they are THAT GOOD!
Do you know how many times I have blogged this week!!!!
